Braai Night. No fire, no braai. Pack it, light it, let it burn down.

Pack it from the ground up. Six details on the way.

  1. The day Braai Night Hosted by Brenton. Dry grass, a good double handful.
  2. When Saturday 5 December 2026 Save the date. Wood-fire takes time.
  3. Fire’s lit 16:00 SAST Meat on at 17:30. Stay till 22:00.
  4. Where The Coetzee Lapa Pretoria East, Gauteng
  5. Bring Your own drinks & a camp chair We’ve got the wood, the meat and the ice.
  6. Wear Closed shoes & a jersey It cools off fast once the sun goes.

Grey coals. Now come and braai on them.

A proper wood-fire braai. We light it at four, wait for the coals to go grey, and cook until the stars are out.

How we build a fire

For the record, and for anyone who wants to argue about it on the day.

  1. Dry grass in the middle. A good double handful.
  2. One firelighter, tucked in low where the draught comes in.
  3. Thin sticks leaned over it in a teepee.
  4. Then the logs, packed round, bark out. Leave a gap to breathe.
  5. Light it once. Match, not petrol.
  6. Fan it gently, then leave it alone. Grey coals, then the meat.
